I'm trying to raise money for my brother, James, to receive a much needed surgery for a very serious and potentially life-threatening condition. He has what is known as an Acquired Diaphragmatic Hernia. The muscle wall which makes up his diaphragm has partially ruptured, causing his intestines to work into his chest cavity and displace vital organs. This is obviously traumatic to the sufferer of this condition for many reasons, but for James the most devastating effect that this has had, is that it has displaced the space required for his lungs to expand- greatly diminishing his lung capacity. This is further complicated by the fact that James already suffers from reduced lung capacity due to scar tissue accumulated as a result of his acute asthma and many bouts of pneumonia (both of which have led to many hospitalizations- even before he was dealing with the aforementioned condition).

James has known of his condition for two years, but has only now been able to find the means to be seen by specialists and schedule a surgery. The problem? The copays and deductibles for the surgery totals $3000 (plus $500 for medications and other associated copays). His physicians have urged him to not delay any longer and have scheduled the surgery for August 19th. As you might imagine, his worsening condition has made it increasingly more difficult for James to work and has left him with no way to accrue the needed funds. This has left us with few options to find funding for this much needed surgery.
