Joe's girls

Joseph Song-Rin Park

August 8th 1979 - November 26th 2014

Dear Friends,

I am saddened to announce that Joe passed away earlier this week on the 26th of November from his lung cancer.  Since his diagnosis in March this year,

Joe had stayed positive throughout the entire process, keeping his smile, saying that he was the luckiest man on the planet for his life. He was such a fighter and kept his sense of humor as well as his sweet politeness and constant care for those around him the whole way through.

Joe, your spirit, your life, and your smile touched so many. All over the world I know that candles are lit for you and your family, with many of those being in the candle holders you made. You had so many talents, mastering anything you wanted to learn or showed an interest in, whether it was biking, screen printing, napkin folding, photography, fruit carving, or wood working. You never feared anything in life, you truly lived it. Your time here was too short and I so wish that we could have had the privilege to have you, healthy and strong, with us for many more years.

I know you did not feel ready to leave, that you could not bear the thought of leaving behind your partner, best friend, and lover Camilla, and your daughter, Asta. That the worry for them broke your heart and that the battle for survival was for them. And I know that Camilla lost half her heart when you left, that her life will never be the same, and that she will heal but will never feel whole again in the way that she did with you. You two were such an awesome team and I know that you would have made parenthood look like a piece of cake, because it would have been. You two are two of the most positive people I have ever met and you truly valued what is important in life - the relationships, the experiences, and each other. For that I am thankful and for that I am heartbroken. I am heartbroken that Camilla has to go through this great loss. That she has to do it without you. You used to do everything together.

Camilla and Lewis, you two made Joe’s last time with us so worthy. Everything you did was with so much love.  The care that you provided for Joe 24/7 so that he was able to peacefully pass in his own home and close to the people he loved the most was truly a gift.  I know that you both carry so much pain in your own hearts, that your loss cannot be described in words and still, still you kept your heads up high and maintained calm, positive and so, so caring week after week. That is truly an act of pure love.

Joe sent me an email a couple of months ago where he asked me to write this announcement and together with Lewis make sure that it got spread. I received an email with the subject death announcement and photo editing. I have never wanted to turn down a request as badly as this. Merely for the fact that I did not want to ever need to write one. That I wanted so badly for you to live, Joe.

Joe also asked me to make sure that Camilla and Asta would be taken care of when he was gone, and I will do my very best to make sure that they are, as well as  start a fund for them as he wanted me to. And if this text has spelling mistakes or grammar errors, I am sorry, but Joe always proof read all my english texts and now, he cannot.

Three days ago the world lost a great man. Camilla lost her husband, the love of her life, her partner, and her rock. Asta lost her father and Joe, you would have been a great father and I am so sorry that Asta will not get to know you in person. Lewis lost his amazing older brother and Joanna her oldest son. Me and many with me lost a dear friend.

I know that you are not in pain anymore, Joe, and for that I am grateful. You have had a lot of pain these past few months and you still did not complain. Your suffering is gone and I am certain that wherever you are now, you are strong, smiling, all light and love.

You were light and joy when you lived and you will continue to be that through our memories and in our hearts.

You will we so missed.
Thank you for everything.
We love you.
