(Short version)

Our friend and coworker Howard Rutty has been a central part of the establishment of H5 Property.  After about two years on our team he got very sick and has been in and out of hospitals since March, 2016.

We want to help him with accumulating bills from a liver transplant (maybe another one coming), weeks in the hospital, prescription bills, inability to work and ongoing procedures by giving and collecting money.

We would deeply appreciate your help.

(Long version)

We asked Howard to tell us his story:

My name is Howard and I live with my two aunts, brother, and, sister in New York. Before all of this began, I was a healthy young man with great artistic abilities. I never smoked and only drank on rare occasions.

I worked as a Graphic Designer at H5 Property and spent a lot of time with family and friends enjoying hobbies such as drawing, painting, and weightlifting. I owned an accessory company and co-founded a clothing line as well. I found joy in everything I engaged in and life was shaping up pretty well.

In March, 2016, I was diagnosed with Autoimmune Liver Cirrhosis.

Through no fault of my own, my body's white blood cells started to attack my liver. This was going on for years and I noticed the signs for over a decade, unaware of what was really happening to me.

Simple tasks became very hard and I rapidly became very sick — so sick that I was placed at the number one spot on the organ donor list.

Over the course of 18 months, I blew up to 260+ plus pounds and shrunk down to just skin and bones. My eyes became mustard yellow, I could barely walk or stand. I also suffered from excess toxins in the brain which made me into a whole new uncontrollable person for days at a time, barely able to speak or recognize my family. I was in a coma twice. I was on dialysis. I developed type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, dry skin, and thin blood. I had uncontrollable itching, unpredictable nose bleeds and very shaky hands. I also developed ulcerative colitis.

I am telling you all this because I want you to understand how close I was to losing my life. On Feb 17, 2017, after many prayers, I received a new liver and new lease on life. The transplant was successful and I began the road to recovery.

Unfortunately, months after the transplant, my body started to attack the new liver and there is a scary possibility that the same process that took place over the last 2 years is going to happen again.

Currently I am experiencing pain and massive swelling in my abdominal area. The doctors are only able to prolong this process by increasing the amount of steroids and medication I am taking. These medications have many side effects and are just a temporary fix. Most likely I will need another transplant as things get worse. I am very grateful to my donor family for my new liver; words cannot explain thankful I am to still have a chance to live. But it is also very disappointing that the sickness has returned, as it is very debilitating to not be able to return to a regular work and social life.
