The creative duo, Robin Fontaine and Gabriel Montoya are raising funds to make "Hyperspace Cowboys," a proof of concept short film. This is the origin story of a non-violent, psychedelic superhero who heals his foes' woes rather than cause more harm.
Inspired by the quote from the late poet-activist Marshawn McCarrel, "I need a pistol that shoots hope. I would light the hood up," "Hyperspace Cowboys" deals with the legacy of trauma caused by systemic racism in society and opens the door to a potential healing path while subverting the superhero genre.
In a world that is increasingly fraught, we intend to tell a story that doesn't end with the cliche "The Good Guys" do violence to "The Bad Guys" as a viable solution for what ails the world. We intend to foster hope in a world where it is scarce.
About us
Robin Fontaine (Director/Producer) - Trained as a stage director in NYC at Fordham University, Robin has a variety of experiences on sets small and large, from producing and directing corporate videos to working as a motion capture producer on some big films including The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 1& 2. She’s excited to bring her skill at directing actors and telling visual stories to this project.
Gabriel Montoya (Screenwriter/Actor/Producer) - Gabriel is a Mexican-American actor-director-writer. He has been making plays for over thirty years. But he's also worked for twelve years as a reporter covering the world of professional boxing as a writer, radio host and videographer where he covered health and safety issues in the world's most dangerous sport.
We are a husband and wife team that began working together creatively as director and actor years before we became a couple. This will be our ninth creative collaboration since 1998, but our first film together.
The Hope
We're self-financing this film and are already putting in a significant amount of our own money. Now, we are looking for additional funds for our post-production phase. Every cent will go into ensuring we can make the best possible film. Any leftover money will go to the crew and actors as bonuses for their work.
