Hyperactive Studios is raising money to produce OTHELLO in July or August of 2024 and we

needYOUR support!

Othello is going to be BIGGER and BETTER than any other Hyperactive production. We're looking to raise half the budget for this show, which will primarily cover Theatre Rental and Rehearsal Space Rental Costs. Hyperactive raises the bar on Classical Theatre. We pay attention to the details, building imaginative worlds through a modern lens, while maintaining a great fidelity to the text and the tradition of Shakespearean story telling.

WHY OTHELLO?

Shakespeare shows us how multi-dimensional, intricate, and, sometimes, beautiful the mask of 'jealousy' can be. The language is enchanting, the world building is atmospheric and nuanced, and the seed of vice that exists in all of us is given free-range to express its full character.

On the surface level, we can think of Shakespeare's Tragedies as simple parables - "Don't do this/ don't do that." But one thing that separates Shakespeare from most writers is his ability to fully flesh out ugly emotions as complex characters: In Richard 3 he shows us the humor and sadness of tyranny. In Othello he is able to demonstrate the beauty and cleverness of Jealousy. These 'masks' of emotion show us the 'craft' of being human.
