My name is Danielle Van Brackel and I am the k-5 STEM instructor for Bellbrook schools. This program is brand new to our elementary schools. We have programs at the middle school and high school but knew that the experience needed to be started as soon as kindergarten.
Kids need to learn to work together to solve problems. This new program is doing just that. Kids are learning to work together for a common goal. They are also learning that it is ok to rebuild and redesign and that giving up is NOT an option.
I now have kindergarten students that are learning to code! I have girls in my classes that have decided that being an engineer would be cool! I also have parents that are telling me that their child is watching less tv and building contraptions throughout the house.
I desperately want to keep this program going and keep these kids on the right path to amazing futures.
That is where Go Fund Me plays a role. I work with approximately 1,100 kids. Although my principals are great, they have only been able to give me so much per school. Parents have been amazing with donations but that still only gets me so far. Hands on education takes money to do it correctly and especially to start a brand new program. So I am asking funds to buy supplies such as tape, craft sticks, clay, paper, cups, and other basic materials to keep our program running smoothly.
I am am already out of some items at both schools and had to spend my own money to buy more. In fact I have spent more this year on my classrooms than ever before. So I could use any amount of money immediately. By having some extra funds, I will be able to teach several different amazing lessons that I have been unable to do in the classrooms due to the lack of materials.
Saying that I am thankful for any funds is an understatement. My class has become "THE favorite class" of my K-5 graders. So I am sure they will also be truly thankful that I will be able to provide more materials for them to continue to learn about STEM allowing me to create the engineers of the future.
Thank you you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Danielle Van Brackel
