Help Save Wednesday – Our Brave Rescue Cat

Hi, my name is Heather, and I am asking for help to save our sweet and sassy cat, Wednesday.

The Southeast Texas Humane Society rescued her when she was just six months old after she was abandoned in a YMCA parking lot in Beaumont. She was skinny, frightened, and showed clear signs of abuse. At first, she was very shy and unsure of people, but over time she slowly learned to trust us, bonded with our other rescues, and officially became part of our family. Today she is quirky, smart, and full of sass, truly the boss of the house.

A Sudden, Mysterious Illness

Now four years old, Wednesday suddenly became critically ill. Her red blood cells and platelets dropped to life-threatening levels, and she needed an emergency blood transfusion to survive.

She has already tested negative for FeLV, FIV, parasites, and other common infections. The specialists now believe she may have Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA), a rare autoimmune condition where the body attacks its own red blood cells. Steroids have helped her red blood cells rise a little, but her platelets remain dangerously low.

Latest Update – Sept. 20, 2025

Wednesday had an abdominal ultrasound this week, and we are waiting on the full results along with more bloodwork expected on Sept. 29. The good news is that her red blood cells are showing improvement. The hard news is that her platelets are still at a critical level. Depending on these results, the doctors may also need to do a bone marrow test to search for deeper answers.

Why We Need Help

We have already drained our savings and maxed out credit cards to keep her stable. This included the cost of her emergency blood transfusion, testing, and a hospital stay to stabilize her. The cost so far for Wednesday’s care and treatment with the internal medicine specialist at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists is $2,913.18. The cost so far for Wednesday’s care with the internal medicine specialist at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists is $2,913.18. This amount covers the tests she has already had, along with the ongoing diagnostics needed to check for Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA) and rule out other possible causes of her illness.
