So picture this, it’s summer 2024 and you are laying in bed around 12 AM when your husband (talking about Christopher) begins telling you that something is extremely wrong with his hand, and that the pain he is in is unlike any pain he has ever experienced in his life. After some quick googling we decided to get to the hospital as quickly as possible.
His hand had begun turning purple, as though he had frost bite and we had no idea why that could be the case. Upon arrival the doctors and nurses acted like he was the most emergent patient they had ever seen. Transferring him to a larger hospital and getting him into emergency surgery the next morning they found that a blood clot has blocked off the artery in his right arm and he was no longer receiving blood flow to the lower portion of him arm, along with 3 other blood clots (this is where we are grateful that none of them broke loose and travelled elsewhere). The surgeon did a fantastic job adding an artificial artery and after that we thought things were all good.
Well, we were wrong. After getting sick and having an infection, the infection attacked the foreigner object in his body and basically ate the implant away. It’s now 8 months later and we still have bounced back financially. We again rush him to the hospital, this time was much more severe and life threatening because the artery ruptured. Again, they moved him to a larger facility within an hour or so that had a trauma ICU where he began blood transfusions, many IV antibiotics, and several other medications and more surgeries.
In the end he lost the tip of his index finger, is suffering sever nerve damage, loss of mobility and range of motion.
As a team we were able to keep things together financially, he is now out of work, has been denied disability and we cannot afford a lawyer.
This GFM is for our rent and bills. We are facing eviction with court in just a couple of days. So as a very last ditch effort, here I am. Asking that family and friends do what they can to help so that we don’t lose or leave behind what we have worked so hard to build. Our little slice of peace together. I have called churches, charities, local organizations, applied for hardship grants, the KYEDP was shut down on April 1st due to loss of federal funding, community action doesn’t help with rent, our landlords won’t work with us or take partial payments, so it’s not as if I have not tried. Asking for odd jobs, trying to get back to work as soon as possible, everything we could think of. There is an HUGE shortage of help for tenants with emergent situations in the NKY area. We know that everyone is struggling right now, so anything will help.
Chris and I have been through a lot together in the near 12 years of our relationship, things that were meant to break us and things that have brought us joy beyond belief! Please help us continue to build our future here, in what we call home. We have both learned that you can blink once and everything is great, blink again and your entire life is flipped upside down. Don’t take what you have for granted.
All of the money will go towards the two months of back rent + the fees incurred for being late, attorney and court fees, and if the then entire goal is met, the remainder will pay for this months rent. I know, it’s a lot to ask.
We appreciate you taking the time to read if you made it this far. And again, we appreciate any help you can give.
With hope and love,
Paige + Chris
