We are raising money for Shannon Volquardsen. Shannon has a mass on her right kidney that ruptured causing over 2 liters of blood to pool out around her kidney causing the kidney to push to the front of her body. After 5 days in the hospital, 2 in the ICU, the doctors were able to get the blood contained to one area. However, she is still in a lot of pain. Shannon's hemoglobin was dropping and she lost a lot of blood, but by the grace of God, the bleeding stopped before needing a transfusion. They did 2 CT scans to determine if the mass is benign or cancerous, but there was too much blood to see clearly. They are unable to do an MRI until her body absorbs enough of the blood for them to see clearly which could take around 2 months or more. The doctors are afraid of doing a biopsy at this time because if the mass is cancerous and the bleeding starts back up, the cancer can spread more quickly. Once the blood subsides, she will need surgery. The doctors are hoping to save the kidney, but there is a chance they will have to remove it. The doctors say this is a very rare and very serious condition. This was also completely unexpected and began happening in the course of only one day. Shannon is a CNA who works in home health care and is unable to work for a while because they do not want her doing any lifting of patients, wheelchair, walkers, etc. as the strain can cause bleeding to start back up and if that happens it is life-threatening. She currently has no health insurance, although she has been applying and praying for approval. Without being able to work, her husband cannot afford all the bills on his own; rent, utilities, food, medical bills, etc. We are asking for help in any way.
