Hi! My husband Dominick and I (Hailey) are in urgent need of assistance with our Maine Coon's medical treatment. As some know, on January 23, 2023, around 8:30 am Cocoa went missing from our apartment after an hour-long therapy appointment. Being Cocoa is very shy and afraid of the outdoors, we knew off the bat chances were high someone stole her from our complex. After contacting the police, filing hundreds of flyers, reaching out on social media, searching for hours on end, etc., there was still no sign of her.
Fast forward fives day later my family is now suffering immensely from a situation we never thought we would face. Three younger males (around 17-19) parked across my apartment complex in an older red Volkswagon. I noticed the driver and back passenger intently staring into our apartment. My first initial thought was they were going to either break in or shoot in the apartment. As I started to yell for my husband, a boy wearing a red shirt, and jeans, with a black cap runs into the car from the patio across from us. I went to the other side of the living room uneasy about the situation to see the same kid run towards our window with our Cocoa Bean. For a second I thought I was going crazy but this time I knew he had her. Before my husband walked out, this piece of shit looks at me, laughs, and slams our cat through the bush onto the concrete. I started screaming to my husband they have her as I ran through the door. I was in shock and ran directly to where he slammed her down and started banging on the windows screaming for help. My husband started screaming at them and tried to chase them down. The driver decided to floor the accelerator before my husband was able to reach him. I witnessed them laughing as they drove away which made me sick to my stomach. We still have no idea how to process this entire situation. As I am digging my way through bushes almost taller than me, Cocoa was yowling in pain. I finally find my way to her in the left back corner and notice her back legs are like limp noodles. The fear in our baby girl's eyes will forever haunt me until the day I die. When we finally brought her into the apartment I knew off the bat her legs were paralyzed. She tried army crawling and dragging her legs-which now have absolutley no structure anymore. We knew if we didn't take her to the nearest emergency vet there is no way she would survive the night. She is currently staying overnight at the VCA Becker Hospital and is suffering from many severe injuries. She is currently suffering from severe neurological damage, especially on her spinal cord, a fractured pelvis, and an absence of pain perception in her legs. She is being transferred to a neurologist tomorrow morning as she also needs surgery on her spine. The Vet said if she does not gain back her pain perception, especially in her left leg, they must amputate her leg. The Vet also said due to nobody knowing what they did to Cocoa before throwing her, she could've had paralysis in her legs for days for all we know. But there is also a chance she is facing extreme neurological damage from shock and how hard he smashed her on the ground. We have given every penny possible to save our baby girl. She did not deserve this and I will never understand why they did this to her. We will give up everything before we give up our baby girl's life. Our family needs all the help and prayers we can get right now. I am not comfortable posting photos of her condition right now as I can't handle seeing her like this as is, it's rapidly eating at me. I will post updated photos as she starts to heal as I do not want anyone to see her in the condition she is in right now. We do not typically ask for financial assistance. However, this is a cry out solely for our angel's life more than a cry for money itself. Please hold your pets extra tight tonight as tomorrow is never promised. We do not wish this hurt even our worst enemy. We will make sure Cocoa gets the justice she deserves.
100% of donations are going towards her surgeries, treatment, hospital stays, MRI, legal matters, etc. All contributions, prayers, thoughts, etc are appreciated and solely in the best interest of our baby girl.
Thank you
hank you
