Brain Surgery for a Marine
Donation protected
Hi,
My son Jon is a Marine Veteran, loving husband & father of 2 young children. In addition to being a Big Brother and a member of Promise Keepers he is also a Hospice Nurse in Columbus Indiana He spent four years active duty as an airport firefighter. He climbed Mt. Fuji in Japan. He's jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, twice. He's done 4 half marathons and 1 full marathon, in freezing rain. He's dealt with multiple lower extremity blood clots from a clotting disorder. He has just been diagnosed with Vestibular Schwannoma, a brain tumor in his ear canal that has made the last 8 1/2 weeks agony for him & this stupid 1.5 cm piece of tissue is threatening his ability to work and provide for his family because they only have one income. He's tough and will fight this with all his strength, but he needs your help. His best chance for recovery is surgery in California. His insurance has yet to approve his request and, at best will cover only 60% out of network coverage. His brother has agreed to go with him, which is a blessing. He'll be in California for 7 to 9 days, and have 6 weeks of recovery. In addition to the normal risks of brain surgery, there are the risks of total hearing loss in his right ear and damage to a nerve that controls facial expression. We're unsure about whether follow up care will be in Indiana or California. We expect his personal out of pocket expenses to exceed $50,000. Jon wants to schedule this surgery before the end of this year because his deductable for the year has been met with the birth of his daughter this year. This is a catastrophic impact for our family, and I appeal to you to open your hearts & donate what you can to help a Veteran in need. Please share on Facebook. Thank you.
