Introduction

Hi there! My name is Nicholas Tadros, I am a second-year student in the Film Production program at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema @ Concordia University. This winter, I’ll be directing my first ever budgeted short film for my Filmmaking II class with the help of some of my talented classmates. Fellow second-year Film Production student Philippe Berthelet will be producing it, and together we're looking to crowdfund a portion of this exciting project!

The Son of Man is a 10 min short horror film that takes place in a cottage in the woods, far from any hint of civilization. To this end, we've found a location in Austin, QC about 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Montreal. The shoot will take place in February from the 3rd to the 7th**.

Synopsis

Sarah receives an odd voicemail from her estranged brother Eric, in which he promises to explain his one year of radio silence if she comes to visit him. Out of concern and curiosity, she obliges and drives off far into the woods to see him. Unsurprisingly, she is greeted with a neurotic, and unhinged husk of a brother, that, despite the promises in his voicemail, avoids any concentrated discussion around his disappearance.

As the days in the cabin go by, strange occurrences and Eric’s increasingly odd behavior trigger traumatic memories from the past. And as Sarah’s stay in the cabin draws to a close, the mystery behind her invitation and the actual reason behind her brother’s voicemail is uncovered.

Why we need the funds

Luckily, the University provides a lot of the gear to help make the film, but when it comes to actors, food, transport, props, and locations, we are left to our own devices. None of the crew or actors are being paid, and a profit isn't gonna be made with the film either. Consequently, for us to provide the best possible on-set experience for our crew and actors, we’ll need support from our community!*

What we need the funds for

  • To transport everyone from Montreal to the Eastern Townships
  • To pay for a truck and a van to bring the Gear and props to the Eastern Townships
  • To house everyone in motels/extra cottage for 4 days
  • To feed the entirety of the crew, three times a day for 4 days
  • To pay for extra gear
  • To pay for costumes and makeup
  • To pay for props

Acknowledgments

It's been a dream of mine for the longest time to make this film! I'm glad and honored that Concordia has given me the green light and the chance to make it with so many talented individuals!

Thank you so much for taking the time to go through it all, and thank you if ever you decide to donate. It really helps a lot and means more than you know!

Any donations from 0,01$ to 3000$ are immensely appreciated!
Everyone that donates will be thanked in the credits at the end of the film!

THANK YOU AGAIN!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*It must be said that the film will without a doubt be made regardless of reaching our goal or not, the donations will allow us to not have to pay for the entirety of the film out of pocket, which, as full-time students, will be an absolutely enormous blessing financially! The donations will also allow us to go to greater lengths to make a better production both in terms of comfort for the crew/actors and end-result. *

** With how Covid-19 is going at the moment, a lot of things may be subject to change, such as crew size and Filming dates, if ever these things change, the goal, as well as the explanations, will be updated accordingly.**
