My brother, Michael, was hit by an SUV last night around 6:30 pm while he was out for a walk, he told me he was "just trying to get some exercise". He was airlifted to Froedtert Main Campus in Milwaukee in critical condition, but is thankfully stable at this time. Mike sustained serious, potentially life-threatening injuries including a fractured femur, several pelvic fractures, vertebral fractures, and at least two other leg fractures. He is currently in the Surgical ICU at Froedtert and the plan is to undergo surgery today to repair his pelvis, femur, and lower leg.
My brother is diagnosed with epilepsy and autism - it has been difficult for him to hold a job long enough to keep insurance, and unfortunately at this time is uninsured. He will need potentially several surgeries, a lengthy hospital stay, rehabilitation, and then extensive PT after this. He will likely be non-weight-bearing for a minimum of 3-4 months, so finding a job for the foreseeable future is not going to be possible. What he needs to focus on right now is getting all of the medical attention he needs and healing, as it is going to be a long road to recovery.
I am asking for anyone who is able to please donate toward helping him and our family cover his hospital costs and rehabilitation so that finances are the last thing we have to worry about right now. We as a family appreciate any and all help people can provide, even sharing to get the word out would be incredible.
