Hi, my name is Renee Ondrajka and I’m Michele Cottrell’s sister. Michele had hip replacement surgery the beginning of May and had planned to return to work in 2-4 weeks. Before leaving the hospital an employee at the hospital failed to wash and glove before she changed the bandage the last time before going home. We trusted there wouldn’t be any fallout from that. Well at the 4 week mark a staph infection was discovered. It was treated and two weeks later it still was not healed. Michele had to have another surgery to clean and disinfect the joint. She was in the hospital 4 days. On top of it all they gave her an oral antibiotic that interfered with her PAH meds and she has had fallout from that as well with her breathing. Michele was diagnosed with this 5 years ago. It is pulmonary hypertension of the lungs. This is a fairly rare condition. There are roughly only 50,000 cases in the US. This was something that she most likely was born with. She takes very expensive meds for this. They each run about $10,000 a month. Fortunately she has been able to get a grant for those and with this condition insurance is not an option. While her husband continues to work, we all know when you are a two family income and half of that is gone from the picture it’s extremely difficult and leaves a burden on someone who does not need the stress when they are trying to heal from not only a planned surgery, but from several medical mistakes due to no fault of Michele’s. It would be so wonderful if you are able to help her financially at this time to get through until she can return to work. We know right now that she will be off of work another 6 weeks while she receives in home IV infusions. This has been a long road already and she has an even longer road ahead, but we know she will beat this with the help of our Lord and the prayers and financial help of her friends. Michele and I have 172 mutual friends so if everyone could give a little then a few wouldn’t have to give a lot. If you can’t give we understand, prayers are of the utmost importance. I’ve never done anything like this before myself, so I hope I’ve expressed the need here the best way. Michele and Rick hate to even ask. They are hard working people and help so many others on a daily basis in there jobs so now it’s our turn. Thank you so much in advance.
