Help Save Celebrity Restaurant

In 2003, I envisioned a restaurant that could be an active part of the community. I worked to make this vision a reality by creating an atmosphere for safe family dining, church gatherings, and community meetings. Over the years, the restaurant has changed locations but remained in the Ferguson community. I have worked tirelessly over the years to make Celebrity Restaurant a part of the community.

I have mentored diverse, young men and women who I hired in my restaurant, inspiring them to make positive choices in their lives and to further their education to become law-abiding citizens - working hard and doing it the right way. I have provided a second chance for individuals who had difficulty finding employment. In an effort, to bring my Christian values into Celebrity, I have a Gospel Fest, the first Sunday of every month to provide local gospel singers a place to showcase their talents. I built my restaurant by giving back to the community on a daily basis, often with great personal sacrifices.

With the tragic death of Michael Brown, I tried to re-unite the community by reaching out to residents, business owners, and employees in the City of Ferguson by offering 100 free meals. I also had a second event the day after inviting clergy, elected officials from neighboring communities, and civic leaders to discuss how we approach the rising tension in our community. With no money, using the few supplies and the few turkeys given to me for Thanksgiving – I stepped out on faith, at the last minute - removing some boards from my restaurant fearing the unknown that my place still could be attacked and demolished.

Keeping the faith to get through the vision that God had given to me but still knowing, I was in desperate need with having no monies to pay my employees who came in to make someone else’s Thanksgiving.

I went back in my office at the end of the evening, as I boarded back up and re-secured my place – I burst into tears asking God “why”. The only thing I have tried to do was make a change in people’s lives and do that right thing. I was praying that this was all a dream but I knew that this was reality. So I decided after crying, with my head on desk drying my tears – I had to break the silence of pride by asking for help to maintain the American dream – my business and to continue to help someone else, help my employees by allowing them to maintain their families through the salary they were making. So if anyone can feel my pain and hear my cry, please help me to continue to help someone else and to bring back hope, faith and the American dream that I have sacrificed for, worked for, and put every penny I had into it.

I wanted to continue to thank our customers for their continued help, support, and prayers. Your words of encouragement have been a comfort to me during this time. We will come back better and stronger.
