MELANIE:  She’s mighty and fearless.  She is an amazing MOM to a beautiful 14-year-old daughter, Pia.  She is fiercely independent, a go-getter and has perseverance beyond understanding.  

Melanie has  accomplished a Half-Iron Man, Olympic distance triathlons, many marathons and put too many miles on a bicycle to count.   She's well educated in nutrition and wellness.  She's the one you would least expect to encounter a health problem. 

GLIOBLASTOMA: Melanie started having strange sensations down her right leg while riding her bike.  These "sensations" became more frequent and eventually led to a seizure while driving Pia.   Melanie was diagnosed in March 2019 with glioblastoma, a very aggressive form of brain cancer. 

THE WILL TO LIVE: Melanie immediately saw her diagnosis as a CHALLENGE.  There was no time for a pity-party; her diagnosis would not become her identity.   She believes she was CHOSEN to climb this mountain.    She wants to empower others battling this disease to do their own research, to get second opinions, to TAKE CHARGE of what they can do and let God do the rest.  

She's become quite a Facebook sensation through this journey.  She has used her illness as a platform to selflessly encourage others.  She leaves her "mark" on all who cross her path, including her physicians.  Her PASSION for life has touched thousands of people.  She spends her weakest moments pouring into others.  If you haven't followed her FB page you should!

TREATMENTS:    Melanie underwent brain surgery at Emory in April.  She's been on countless trips to Emory for scans, blood work, medication changes, etc.  She finished 6 weeks of extremely high dosages (clinical trial) of radiation.  Currently, she has 10 more months of chemo to go.  

HELP CARRY THE LOAD:  Melanie is a brave, single mom. She is also the  ‘only’ parent to Pia. In addition to fighting for her life, she is trying to find the energy to work and be a mom.  Until now, these two have conquered life’s challenges together with very little assistance.  She's very uncomfortable asking for help, but Melanie and Pia NEED our help. 

Everything in Melanie and Pia’s lives has changed including their financial security.  The financial burden that comes with an unexpected medical crisis is something few double-income families could handle.   Melanie is paid on 100% commission and her ability to produce has been drastically strained by this battle with cancer.  She can no longer cover her monthly expenses, mounting hospital bills that are not covered by insurance, and is taking on debt to make ends meet.

THE NEED: Melanie desperately needs HELP in covering her basic needs for rent, utilities, transportation,  food, supplements and expenses for Pia.   We want to partner with this amazing woman and cover all of their expenses for 1 year until Melanie completes chemo and recovers.
