Helping Georgia Fight Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Donation protected
I'm Laura, and I am raising money for my girlfriend, Georgia, who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma in November 2024. Though Georgia felt a sense of relief to finally have an answer for unexplainable symptoms, such as fatigue, night sweats, and ever-growing lymph nodes, the illuminating scan left us with feelings of shock, resentment, and fear for what lies ahead.

Georgia's story

Prior to her diagnosis, Georgia was a teacher of students with special educational needs in Norwich. She was -- and is -- so well-admired by the amazing staff at her school, having made a difference in the lives of so many young people. She is so passionate about supporting those with additional needs -- and lights up when given the opportunity to speak about what challenges she helps students overcome. Though her passion remains, the profession she loved was cruelly snatched from her the day we received her diagnosis. She did initially plan to work for a remaining week following that day, but her aggravating symptoms had other plans -- and I so vividly remember the day she departed for the foreseeable. It was simultaneously the end and start of something.

Georgia has an amazing and supportive network of friends who have dropped everything to offer their time, warmth, and passenger seat. The ongoing support she receives, I feel, is testament to the person she is: kind-hearted, nurturing, thoughtful, and radiant. These characteristics naturally drew me to her four years ago when we met. It was immediately obvious to me that she has an endless capacity to express her love in a multitude of ways. We have spent so much time in each other's company that I am assured of one thing: I want it to continue forever.

In 2022, Georgia lost her mother to lung cancer, having spent over two years being a diligent carer throughout a time that could only be described as rigorous and demanding. I admired her resilience and courage in the face of such adversity. Whether she was driving to and from Leicester each week, taking her mother to appointments, or supporting her day-to-day living, Georgia was a force of nature. She met the situation that unravelled before her with admiring strength, and this is exactly what I see in her some two years later embarking upon her own cancer journey.

The financial burden

Cancer does not just take a toll on the body and spirit; it also places an enormous strain on finances. Here’s what your support will help cover:

  • Transportation Costs: Regular trips to specialists and treatment centres, often far from home.
  • Living Expenses: With Georgia unable to work during treatment, everyday bills like rent, utilities, and groceries are a challenge. Your donations will allow Georgia to focus entirely on her recovery without the constant worry of mounting bills.
  • Nutrition and Recovery: Specialised meals and supplements to support her immune system and recovery process.

How you can help

  • Donate: No amount is too small. Every pound makes a difference and brings us closer to giving Georgia the care she needs.
  • Share: Please share Georgia’s story with your network. The more people who know, the more support we can rally.
  • Send Love and Encouragement: Your words of hope and love mean the world to Georgia. A simple message can lift her spirits on the toughest days.

A message to Georgia

From the moment we recieved the news, I made a promise to myself that I will be by your side every step of the way. Life will feel stagnant, as though we are powerless. I am determined to make this transient: to help, support, and love you through whatever lies ahead of us. There will be an endless supply of Lucozade Sport and ready meals. There will be no limit on the heating bill. There will be clean clothes, bedding, and kitchen surfaces. There will be love and laughter and joy at every opportunity we can carve it out. I won't hide from the difficulties that lie ahead, but we will ruthlessly compete with this illness as a team. When you feel awash with anguish, despair, or fear, know that I would chose nothing else but to love and support you forever. Dare I say, this will only make us stronger. I love you.

With love, Laura
