Andrew had been battling cancer since November 2024, when doctors first found one tumor in his brain and one on his spinal cord. This month, we received the devastating news that the cancer had spread, there were now two more tumors in his brain and two more on his spinal cord.

Even with everything he was facing, on Friday, July 11th, Andrew was in good spirits, laughing and talking with his siblings and cousin. Later that day, he suddenly developed a severe headache. We rushed him to the hospital, where doctors gave him medication but nothing could ease his pain.

Andrew told me his whole body hurt, his head, his teeth, and he just felt so tired. Not long after, the pain became unbearable. He began screaming from the pain and then started to hallucinate.

The doctors decided to perform a CT scan to try to understand what was happening. Around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, he was still conscious as they prepared him for the scan. About 10 minutes in, his heart rate suddenly slowed down. The team immediately stopped the scan and rushed him to the ICU.

By 5:50 a.m., the doctors told me Andrew had suffered a stroke and encouraged us to call family to come say their goodbyes.

At 10:00 a.m., we were told Andrew had passed on and that he was no longer in pain. But he remained connected to life support while the medical team completed the necessary tests to confirm brain death.

On July 13th at 12:30 p.m., Andrew was officially declared brain dead. We made the heartbreaking decision to remove him from life support the following day so that all of our family could gather to say goodbye.

On Monday, July 14th, at 4:00 p.m., our entire family came together at Andrew’s bedside and a priest came to offer his final blessing. At 5:01 p.m., the doctors told us that Andrew’s body could no longer hold on and there was nothing more they could do.

Andrew left this world surrounded by the love of his family, with prayers spoken over him, and with all of us reminding him how deeply loved he is. Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort knowing that he is at peace, free from pain, and held in God’s loving arms.

The family is now facing the difficult task of planning Andrew’s funeral, which will be held on July 29th, along with the many expenses that come with it. The funds raised will help cover funeral and memorial expenses, outstanding medical bills, and provide much-needed support during this incredibly difficult time.
