H.W. Blake High School Football & Soccer Fire

Fire at Blake High School Ruins Football Equipment

A fire on the campus of Blake High School destroyed nearly all of its football soccer programs'  equipment on Saturday, May 16th, 2020, from game day necessities to practice dummies and more.  One of those irreplaceable items was a donation from the booster club: A homemade stencil that was made specifically for Blake to re-create the school’s yellow jacket logo in the center of the field for game days.

The school’s game-day equipment, field markers, pylons, chains, practice equipment, pop-up dummies, pads and all daily workout gear are presumed lost.  The budgets for Blake High School are so tight; the money won’t be there (in the yearly budget) to replace everything, let alone 25 percent of it.

This is a HUGE social and motivational hit to the students of H.W. Blake High School ... Tampa's first traditional African-American school in Tampa, Florida.

I am a teacher at Blake High School, and I've witnessed firsthand the positive impact the football program has provided our students (who oftentimes use their participation in sports as a positive outlet) and the pride it brings to the community as a whole.

We NEED your support to help replenish the items lost, and restore the cultural, social, and neighborhood pride of this West Tampa historical gem and its importance to the students of this community.
