Sad news. When an emergency room visit on Sept. 7 showed not only an inguinal hernia, but also enlarged lymph nodes, further blood work and scans confirmed advanced prostate cancer, which has spread to multiple areas. Working with an oncologist, Jay has been started on a regimen of shots to slow the cancer’s growth (it cannot be eliminated, only slowed). He has recently been made aware of a new drug (a daily pill) which, when taken in conjunction with the shots, increases the success of the regimen. The new pills are super expensive and would have to be continued, like the shots, from here on out. We’re looking at $45,000- $65,000 of out of pocket expenses plus copay costs for the possible 3-5 years we’re hoping to have here together. Not our favorite thing to be asking for funding, but our desire for time together overshadows our reluctance to reach out.
