Hi, my name is Krystal. I have lived in Haysville, KS for the last five and a half years, and for the last year, my 10-year-old son and I have been doing everything we can for a very sweet, intelligent, newly Christian young man named Devon. Devon is 32 years old and was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which changed his life forever. After his diagnosis, he was left by his partner, with her saying she just couldn't take care of him. He lost his job, and with no family to support him and a daughter he misses, Devon couldn't pay rent, lost his house, and has been on the streets the last couple of years just trying to hold on to hope. He turned to Jesus and started praying just to survive day to day. Devon has felt embarrassed and invisible for too long. He is not the story of a homeless man that chooses to be homeless or that begs for money just to get drugs or alcohol! Devon is clean and sober and actually chooses what's healthier for him if/when someone offers food or things to drink. He is of sound mind, has a desire to live, and as a single mom, I do all I can to advocate for Devon. He has pending social security paperwork, he has state insurance, and I have been working slowly but surely on the necessities: ID, SS, etc. I have been advocating and telling Devon's story on Facebook and local groups, and we appreciate the handful of friends that have helped with some clothes, pitched in with me to put Devon in a local motel room so he can experience a real bed and hot shower instead of the ground and his wheelchair. I have been getting care packages from Dollar Tree for Devon, and my son and I bring him homemade meals, water, Powerade, OJ, vitamins, etc.
I have finally decided to make this GoFundMe for Devon because we need help! Devon was asked to leave his regular "camp," not due to anything he did, but he was told because of every other homeless follower. This is incredibly hard on Devon, being confined to his wheelchair (that's falling apart) because it leaves him searching to find where to be/sleep, and he cannot get far with his joints curling; he can't push his wheelchair far. Devon is extremely respectful and doesn't bother anyone. He wants to be better; he wants his life back!
PLEASE HELP me help Devon. We have gotten to the point FINALLY where we have two appointments set up! I will have to take time off work and also manage getting Devon and his chair into my car, but these appointments could be life-changing for Devon with referrals for medical attention, housing, and employment help! I am setting this goal because Devon is in desperate need of an electric chair to manage life! We also have to have funds to get him started! With him being displaced and us so close to finally getting the assistance he needs, our help getting at least a week's stay at the local motel is crucial. We will have an opportunity with housing and a HHA with a deposit and a little help to furnish, as Devon has nothing. We could really help him start a new chapter and a new life!!! I'm doing all I can, but I am just one person. Will you please help us?
We're so thankful for ALL your prayers, having a heart, and whatever you can help with goes straight to what Devon needs!!
Thank you so much. ❤️
