Scrambled Legs - triathlon to raise money for Alzheimer's
I am raising money for The Alzheimer’s Society by doing Castle to Coast triathlon on 20th July. This will involve a 1.2 mile lake swim, 66 mile bike ride and a 14 mile run.
Back in 2020 as you’ll all remember, we were in lockdown and unable to see loved ones. We had a couple of Zoom calls with my family, but it was only when we were able to meet face to face that we noticed a deterioration in my dad. He’d always been the man of the house, sorting the finances, dealing with the mundane stuff like bills, insurance and car maintenance. Suddenly he wasn’t as able to and kept forgetting simple things. When he was diagnosed with dementia, it was hard on my mum and the rest of the family too. At 90 he’s physically fit and thankfully he still knows who we are and is on medication to slow the condition down. However, it is still difficult to see the change in him and to know he will never get better. This is such a cruel disease that robs so many people each year of their loved ones and devastates lives. Raising awareness and money will help sufferers and their families get the support they need and fund groundbreaking research.
