Help bring COFFEE to Husmus Studio

Hello again! We're starting Phase 2 of Husmus Studio! --A COFFEE CART! More details below but first an update!

We launched this Gofundme one full year ago! We have done SO MUCH since then. We officially opened our doors on June of 2024. At that point, we were using roughly 70% of the studio space for retail and the rest was used as my sewing space... and starting this month, we've taken over the lease for the studio space above the store! That means we've DOUBLED our footprint in one year. It's a little hard to believe. It's been a dream! Here's some of the highlights:

  • hosted 10+ markets with local businesses
  • hosted several events including art shows and dinner parties
  • hosted community workshops, from ourselves and other artists
  • raised funds for local and regional organizations
  • created multiple photoshoots
  • added vintage and second-chance home goods and clothing
  • added food & beverage items
  • created a business profile and website

So what's Phase 2?? As I mentioned in our launch, I've been a barista for 18 years and my vision was to add a coffee cart element to the store. My favorite part of working in coffee for so long has been my link to the community. I have gotten to meet so many people, many of you have followed me here, that I now call friends and have to privilege to work with in a new capacity.

I would love to bring a walk-up coffee cart to the neighborhood. I would serve espresso and drip coffee as well as seasonal drinks. During the warmer days, we will be able to roll it outside onto the lot, and in the colder days, we will still be able to operate inside the studio.

Our goal is now $14,000. This includes the $3,600+ already raised, as well as roughly $10,000 to build out the cart and buy equipment and supplies. The projected timeline is Spring of this year!

THANK YOU so much for the support so far and believing in this dream with me. I'm filled with gratitude for every person who donates, shops with us, and shares kind words. We couldn't do any of this without you!

------ original post below ------
Hello! I'm Sarah Musgrave, also known as @moosegrave on instagram. I want to open a retail space in the neighborhood where I live, Parkridge, located in Knoxville, Tennessee.

I have been a barista by trade for over 15 years. (Chances are you have seen me behind the counter over the years at Old City Java or Wild Love Bakehouse here in Knoxville - or even a Stumptown Coffee cafe in NYC.) While coffee has been my main source of income, I've always had my handful of side interests. Most currently, I started a sewing business, Moosegrave (now Husmus Studio), making home goods and selling these through Instagram or at local maker markets. I even gained my first wholesale client last year! Shoutout to KnoxFill for their trust and support!

The support and interest from you, my community of people, has been overwhelming and humbling in the very best of ways. You have helped me see my little ideas grow into bigger and bigger dreams. This has brought me to the place I am now, at the edge of growth and belief. While my current product list includes common household items like napkins, towels, aprons, bags, etc., I would like to expand what I offer. (There is only so much I can reasonably sell in a 10x10 booth!)

So what's next? What would Husmus Studio include?
The answer is expansive and hopefully never conclusive, to be honest.
In reality, here is what you can expect in the initial opening phase:
  • more home good offerings - market totes, pillows, coasters, etc.
  • curated vintage home goods - I have a deep love for beautiful glassware!
  • non-sewn items made by me and other makers

In later phases as Husmus Studio grows, I would like to add a coffee/espresso cart to the space. I envision this as a walk-up, grab-n-go spot you can stop to get a yummy drink as you shop or to take with you on a walk around the neighborhood.

My initial goal is $6,000, which would help cover rent, utilities, and material costs as I ramp up production. It would also help me pay my first and only employee, my momma, who has been helping me and donating her time for long enough.

My second goal, which would bring the second phase (coffee) to reality sooner, is $25,000. This would help cover materials, equipment, and employee compensation.

Anything above these goals will go towards prolonging the life of the shop, increasing what we offer, and employee wages.

Husmus Studio will be located at 713 Winona St. suite 201, in the Winona Place building beside two other small businesses, Reclaim Collective and Root & Branch Paper Co. ! Though I'm already in the space, projected opening will be in early Spring of this year.

As I write this and ask for crowdfunding in this way, I want you to know, any and all support from you means so much to me, even if it is not financially. Sharing with friends, saying kind words, believing right along with me - it all helps.

** The very first thing I put in the space after I got my key was my school photo from sixth grade. I can just imagine how proud of herself she would be, and is. **
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!
I can't wait to bring Husmus Studio to life and share it with you.
