Husband needs chemo for brain cancer.

Jeff and Debra live in Carson City, Nevada. Jeff, my husband, has a Meningioma tumor, which is aggressively growing in his sinus cavity.

After speaking with a surgeon who specializes in cranial operations, Jeff went to the University of Florida to do a craniotomy on the right side of his head to remove the tumor. Following with 20 rounds of radiation, this surgery left the cranial skull wide open, and the doctor had to put it back together.

As a result of the surgery, Jeff lost his vision in his right eye, and now he is completely blind in that eye. The next stop was at a hospital at Stanford, where a neurosurgeon had offered to perform a 13-hour surgery. Complicating the matter, an Eye-Nose & Throat doctor said it’s going to be necessary to open his sinus cavity to give the neurosurgeon room to debulk this Meningioma tumor. In addition, Jeff has lost his pituitary gland and needs medication on a regular basis endocrine system.

Jeff stayed at Stanford Hospital for ten days, but he lost his equilibrium because of the surgery and can’t walk. He has lost his ability to balance himself. On top of that, Jeff had to have a tube inserted into his lower back to drain the spinal fluid every hour.

He’s been in recovery at home for six months. Due to the bulk of paper work that overwhelmed Debra, Jeff missed insurance deadline was missed, appointments with oncology (loss of insurance), and for the governmental assistance. Jeff is a veteran, although, unfortunately, the Veterans Administration has been unable to help Jeff.

This tumor has forced Jeff to leave work because of the loss of cognitive abilities, therefore, loss of wages. I am his sole caregiver and the only one working.

Jeff and I had dreams of traveling during retirement to visit old Air Force friends, but that dream has evaporated with the physical and financial trauma.

The priority now is paying for the necessary chemo and medical bills and to pay for food and cost of living bills.
