My wife of 30 years got sick with a sinus infection in April of this year. It went into her skull and she required surgery. She has been disabled all her life but was able to assist with transfers from her wheelchair to bed or couch. The hospital removed a large portion of her skull to wash out the infection. Post surgery she had lost her ability to move her legs and has lost much of her hearing, sight, and her speech is slurred. She was in a skilled nursing facility for a few months trying to rehab. This type of surgery for a healthy person takes 6 months to a year to recover from. Insurance stopped paying after six weeks as she was not yet responding to rehab. I had no choice but to put her in a private care home, but funds are running out. After she went to the hospital the pipes in this old house burst and the AC failed. I cannot try to bring her home as it is all I can deal with here to keep the pets alive in the Arizona heat and me as well. The home is secondary at this time. Family comes first. She is back in the hospital at this time as she seems to be losing the desire to eat and drink after losing what little independence she had. I have a job, but have not been able to be involved with it for some time due to all the things going on. I will soon be unemployed and what little we have saved will be gone. I am hoping for any small assistance available so I may still take care of my wife and try to save our home I have been in for 47 years and eventually bring her back here when she is able. At this time I am trying to get her admitted to another skilled facility as she is finally showing signs of some movement in her feet and legs. Rehab may be able now to help.
