Hurstville Zagreb Croatian Earthquake Fundraiser

Dear Hurstville Zagreb FC family and friends,

As you’ve all heard, the little town of Petrinja (50km south-east of Zagreb) as well as surrounding towns have been devastated by 6.4 magnitude earthquake on the 29th December 2020.  Sadly, a number of people have lost their lives and many more have been injured or had their homes destroyed.  Many are now effectively homeless and there have been frantic efforts to find temporary accommodation so that no one is left without a place to sleep.

Two of our Hurstville Zagreb FC boys that are now living in Croatia (Vinko Kraljević and Franjo Kiš) have been on the ground overnight helping get basic necessities to the communities in Petrinja and Glina who have been the most affected by the quake.

They spoke to a local priest, Fra Drago, who is a friend of our Fra Smiljan that previously served in Sydney.  Fra Drago says that the larger charities have done well in getting basic supplies to people, but what they don’t help with is getting building materials and organising labour to be able to rebuild people’s homes.  Therefore, he recommends that if we really want to help, we should as a Hurstville Zagreb FC boys look to help by buying the building materials so that volunteers can help a few poorer families rebuild their homes and their lives.

To give everyone the confidence that your money is being used correctly, with Vinko and Kiš on the ground, they will collect all our donations and then share the progress of any rebuilds/repairs through photos/videos.

We are aiming to raise $15k to help one to two families, but please know that the more we raise the more people we’ll be able to help.
