Hurricane Relief for communities in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica

Hello, my name is David Andrew Reid. I’m a Jamaican living in Toronto and I’m raising funds to send to the town of Lacovia and several other surrounding communities in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. St. Elizabeth is one the most affected parishes from Hurricane Melissa.

My parents have been living in Lacovia for over 12 years serving as community leaders, with my father, Reverend Tony Reid as the priest in charge of 4 Anglican churches in the communities there.

My parents were spared from any major damage, however many of people in the town have suffered. The money raised from this GoFundMe will be sent to an emergency relief bank account of the St. Thomas Anglican Church in Lacovia, operated by Rev. Tony Reid and will be used for purchasing food, water, building materials, paying for labour and other various costs for people in many remote areas who are harder to reach.

This avenue is a means to get supplies directly in the hands of the people of these communities, instead waiting for other aid organizations and government agencies dealing with multiple affected communities across the island.

Jamaica is my home and my parents have been serving the community in Lacovia and surrounding areas for 12 years and I hope this can be an opportunity to do something to help from across the ocean.

As the Jamaican saying goes, “one one cocoa fill basket,” meaning every little thing counts and adds up. So please give as much as you can, and no amount is too small.

Thank you
