As many of you are aware, Hurricane Melissa, One of the most destructive storms of the century (Category 5, 185 mph winds) has just ripped a path of devastation across the land of my birth, Jamaica, causing widespread damage to entire communities - and destroyed my childhood home. My name is Dylan Zane and I am creating this “Go Fund Me” on behalf of my family home/business and Granville/Irwin communities, located in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
This Property has been my family's business since the late 1990’s and is now run by my Grandmother alone. This Property holds a deep and special place in my heart and the hearts of the many that have tied the knot here. My now deceased grandfather poured everything he had into preserving the old world charm and beauty of this historic property. Part of its charm was its open air gazebo and restaurant - all of which has been damaged. While we have yet to determine the full extent of the damage, some of the critical infrastructure destroyed by the storm includes the roof and walls of both the home and restaurant, complete collapse of the gazebos used for wedding receptions, and the property gate.
We believe restoration and reconstruction is possible and are asking for your support. This property is sustained through special events and your contribution will be used to help subsidize building materials and labor, and to assist staff, some of whom have lost their roofs and rely on the hospitality business for their livelihood, along with support for the Granville and Irwin communities which suffered severely from flash flooding. I plan on returning to Jamaica as soon as practical to assist with relief efforts, and will meet with a variety of organizations targeting hurricane relief and will post updates on our progress here.
Please consider contributing through this Go Fund Me, or through other trusted organizations like Food for The Poor. Recovering from the immense destruction across the island will take not just money, but time, faith and patience.
Thank you
Dylan Zane
