Black River, Jamaica needs your help after Hurricane Melissa

My name is Ruth-Ann Phipps, I'm from Black River, St Elizabeth on the Island of Jamaica, once known for its rich history which was held in its infrastructure, its accommodating and friendly people. Since the passage of Hurricane Melissa, Black River as we know it is no more. We are faced with devastation and need help to rebuild our nation, stronger together, which will take time, effort and a lot of resources. We are doing this as a community effort to help each and everyone in need as much as is possible.

From an ariel video shot by the prime minister we were able to see that many homes (almost all) including mine were left without roofs and with many structural damages. Persons in the community have been left without shelter, food, and a source of income. Farmers, fishermen, nurses and many other professions have been affected.

The damage to St. Elizabeth, Jamaica is beyond that which words can explain, the schools, homes, hospitals community centers and roadways have been destroyed. We are seeking financial donations as well as donations of clothing, bedding, baby items and personal hygiene products.

This fund raiser is aimed towards:

1. Purchase of Roofing materials to rebuild homes damaged by the hurricane.

2. Providing food to those in need (clean drinking water, nonperishable food items and warm meal)

3. Providing bedding supplies and medical aid to emergency shelters which are packed to capacity.

4. Shipping donations from overseas through collection drives which are now on the way.

5. Creating a way for farmer and fishermen to bounce back from dis devastation.

With your help we will be to repair roofs and infrastructure to the many homes in the community including my home.
