Direct Relief in Partnership with Nicola & Peter Harvey for Jamaica Recovery
About This Fundraiser
This campaign is created in partnership with Direct Relief, a global humanitarian organization delivering life-saving medical aid where it’s needed most.
Direct Relief is the number one-rated medical aid charity in the United States, holding a 100% score from Charity Navigator for impact, efficiency, and transparency. For over 75 years, the organization has provided emergency medical assistance and long-term health support in more than 80 countries and all 50 U.S. states.
Most recently, the Mickey & Madeleine Arison Family Foundation, together with the Miami Heat and Carnival Corporation & plc, donated US $1 million to Direct Relief for the management and distribution of hurricane aid to Jamaica — a strong testament to the trust placed in their mission and effectiveness.
Together, we’re mobilizing support for southwestern Jamaica, one of the regions hardest hit by Hurricane Melissa, to help avert a growing health and humanitarian crisis.
Who We Are
We are Nicola and Peter Harvey, and though we now live in the United States, our hearts remain deeply tied to Jamaica — especially the Black River area and surrounding communities in the island’s southwest.
Nicola spent nearly half of her adult life there, and we both still have beloved family and friends who call Jamaica home. We know firsthand how limited access to healthcare can be even in the best of times — and how devastating it becomes when a hurricane strikes.
This fundraiser is our way of standing for what’s right — protecting, uplifting, and helping our communities heal through Direct Relief’s trusted, transparent, and life-saving mission.
Our Purpose
Hurricane Melissa left behind more than destroyed homes — it disrupted access to clean water, medicine, and essential healthcare.
Without immediate support, thousands could face preventable illness, infection, and worsening chronic conditions.
By partnering with Direct Relief, we can ensure that every contribution delivers critical medical resources, power backup for clinics, and public-health support directly where it’s needed most.
How Funds Will Be Used
All funds raised here are transferred directly to Direct Relief through GoFundMe’s verified charity platform and are managed entirely by their team.
Your donations will help to:
Deliver emergency medical kits to clinics and first responders
Supply life-saving medicines and essential health products
Support local healthcare facilities overwhelmed by storm-related needs
Help prevent disease outbreaks and secondary health crises
We will not handle any of the funds personally — your contribution goes straight to the source of impact and accountability.
Why This Matters to Us
This is personal. These are our people, our places, our memories — and our call to action.
We’ve walked those same roads in Black River and the surrounding parishes, shared meals with the very families now struggling to rebuild, and experienced the resilience of a community that always finds light after the storm.
Now, it’s our turn to stand with them.
