When Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica, it wasn’t just another storm — it was the most powerful hurricane the island has ever seen. In a single night, everything changed for my children’s family and their family's community.
The winds tore through homes that had stood for generations. Roofs disappeared, walls crumbled, and the rain and wind swallowed everything in its path. The river that once brought life now runs dark with debris and pollution, leaving them without clean water to drink or cook with. Food is scarce, roads are cut off, and the power grid is gone — with no sign of restoration for quite a while to come.
Our family’s farm, once a source of pride, food, and livelihood, was completely destroyed. The fields are flattened, and heartbreakingly, many of the animals raised and cared for did not survive the storm. The loss is not just physical — it’s emotional. It’s losing years of work, comfort, and connection to home.
Their family has always lived modestly but with enormous heart — people who share what they have, who laugh together, who help one another rebuild after every hardship. But this time, the damage is overwhelming.
We’re raising funds to help them take their first steps toward recovery — to rebuild their homes, restore their farm, and bring stability back to their lives. Donations will go toward:
• Generators and fuel for power
• Tools and materials to rebuild homes (which are very costly locally - one sheet of plywood is approx. $44 CAD and one 2"x4" lumber is $23 CAD)
• Food and clean water
• Replacement of essential household items and appliances
• Support to restart the farm — caring for surviving animals and rebuilding shelter and fencing
Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps bring back light, safety, and dignity. It’s a meal for a family, a roof over their heads, or a start toward rebuilding the farm that sustained them.
Your kindness can help them find hope again after losing everything. From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for giving, sharing, and keeping them in your thoughts and prayers. ❤️
