I'm Mario Galbert, living in Portmore, St. Catherine, Jamaica. I currently serve as the Executive Coordinator of the Caribbean Youth Climate Council. Hurricane Melissa made landfall on the western side of Jamaica on October 28th, 2025, with wind speeds of 185 mph. This resulted in damage to homes, schools, shelters, agricultural farms, small businesses, hospitals, etc.
Over 200,000 people are without food, a roof over their heads, and access to clean water and proper sanitation. We are coordinating for our members affected in different parishes and support families in small communities long term. The GoFundMe is to support food supplies and recovery efforts across five (5) parishes, namely: St. James, Westmoreland, Hanover, St. Elizabeth, and Trelawny. The Caribbean Youth Climate Council launched the Hurricane Melissa Disaster Recovery Youth Task Force to coordinate recovery efforts for youth, children, women, girls, and other vulnerable groups.
Each parish will be allocated 5,000 USD. This will be used for purchasing:
1) Non-perishable food supplies
2) Cases of bottled water
3) Toiletries and personal hygiene products
4) Temporary housing items
5) Baby and children supplies
Recovery is long-term and requires coordinated efforts and your support to help us adopt communities and support families.
