Hurricane Ida - help needed for family of 5

I am Walter Bost. My wife, two daughters and 4-year-old granddaughter, Lily, live in La Place, Louisiana, in a small three-bedroom cottage that we have worked hard to make safe and charming for our family. We struggle as so many others do to make ends meet. After years of upheaval, we had found some stability over the last year or so. Unfortunately, our house is very near to where the center of Hurricane Ida hit on August 29. During the night, when the worst of the storm was passing, we hunkered down in the dark in an interior hallway with our daughters and little granddaughter. We had no power and no cell service. We were terrified and could hear portions of the roof being ripped away and great crashes and breaking noises all throughout the night. We had no idea what we would find when morning came. When the wind finally died down, and daylight came and it was safe to move toward the exterior of the house, we were horrified at what we saw. The 150-mile an hour winds had ripped everything to shreds. Pieces of the roof and gutters were twisted into pretzels.

The sweet little backyard retreat we had built for Lily looks like a junkyard. No one knows when power will be back on or when we will be able to return. But really there is not much to return to. We were able to salvage a few things from the house and are fleeing - in our truck right now, driving north, seeking a motel where we can shelter. We will use all donations we receive from this page to replace the things we've lost in the hurricane and pay for food, clothing, provisions, and temporary shelter until we are able to return. We are hard-working people who build fences. I'm sure once everything settles, we will be able to get back on our feet. I know people who suffered damage from Hurricane Ida will be needing their fences repaired and we will be grateful for the work and happy to help when we can. But right now, we have no savings, and no insurance, and we would be eternally grateful for whatever help you might be able to give. Thank you for reading.
