Hurricane Ian relocation fund

Hi. My name is Sasha and on September 28, 2022, my family and I's lives changed forever. The eye of Hurricane Ian went directly over our house in North Port, Florida and swept up or blew away life as we knew it. Our house was flooded, all of our beloved contents that gave us comfort and security were covered in sewer water and mold. Luckily we had evacuated late the night before the storm with our autistic child, two dogs and guinea pig. When we were finally able to drive through the flood waters five days later and view our home, our hearts sunk at the complete devastation of our home. The stench was unbelievable as we waded through water to see our floors buckled, items floating in locations which they were not left, the ceiling collapsed and entire rooms covered in insulation and drywall leaving us to look at the sky above the room. Drawers were still filled with horrific smelling sewer water, mold was climbing up the walls and furniture, refrigerators were dripping with stinking melted contents, and all of my son’s special sensory equipment and toys that allowed him to deal with everyday life were ruined. It was heartbreaking.

Our house is unlivable. We were blessed with a true friend that offered us a spare room an hour away and then we moved into a short term rental but our time here is running out. We had to leave our dogs at a friends house and rehome our guinea pig, so we miss them terribly. We need to move into a long term rental however insurance hasn’t paid anything and they are trying to offer $80,000 less than what we need to fix the house. It is such a ridiculous amount. We are trying to pay our mortgage, monthly rental, and now moving expenses to relocate and start from scratch. Generous people have donated clothes and toys to cover our immediate needs, but we have no idea how to go forward and rebuild a place to live. Some furniture has been donated but we need every single little thing that is used on a daily basis. It is so much and so overwhelming. We could really use money to help pay living expenses, relocation expenses and to replace the contents of our house.
