Hurricane Ian – FMB WeChooseYoga Relief Fund

I'm Diane from Wellington, FL. I have been taking Yoga classes over Zoom from Susan since the beginning of Covid. Susan and her classes kept me sane during that insane time. I am fundraising to help her get the necessities she needs now and to help her get back on her feet.

I want to tell you about just one - of the hundreds of devastating stories caused by hurricane Ian.

Susan Cater lived on Pearl Street in Fort Myers Beach for over 30 years. She and her husband Russ had a tiny, charming, stilt home with great neighbors. Then just a couple of months ago, she lost the love of her life to cancer.

Susan is 73 and is one of the kindest people I know. Before retiring, she worked at Health Park for 25 years; she is a Certified Iyenger Yoga Teacher and Therapist who has taught classes for 22 years. Susan was not going to let the Covid epidemic stop her from her passion - teaching yoga. She set up a Yoga studio in her tidy living room and began teaching yoga over Zoom. Susan does not charge for her classes, wanting everyone to practice yoga regardless if they have money for classes or not. She works for donations only.

Susan lost her home, her car, and almost all her possessions in the hurricane except what she had taken in an overnight bag when she evacuated the island before the storm. She is now sleeping at a friend's house.

Want she wants most is to get back to teaching yoga, so she can help hurricane victims de-stress by learning and practicing yoga.
