Sadly, on the night of Wednesday, November 4th, at 11 pm my Aunt Erika and her two sons had to leave their home due to the shear force of the water coming from Hurricane Eta in Honduras. Despite my cousin’s efforts to try and rescue some of their belongings, they were unsuccessful. It was impossible to find any of their belongings. The wave rushed in in such an unpredictable manner. To make matters worse, my cousin is now dealing with a cold right now as he was submerged in the water for quite some time. My Aunt who has to work two jobs as a single mother in order to sustain her family is an exemplary woman who has passed through tribulations and always strives through what life brings. The footage you see seems unreal and like that of movies. Thankfully, they are all safe and got out of their place on time. In Honduras, resources are scarce already and there is no such thing as Flood Insurance, so it is up to them to put the pieces back together. Additionally, the government unfortunately doesn’t provide any assistance to individuals affected by natural disasters.
With the help of family and friends we hope to get through this. I am not one to ask for help, but this is a dire situation where they will need to start over. I can’t fathom the idea of losing everything in the blink of an eye. Any assistance you can provide would be extremely appreciated. On behalf of the Mejia Family, we thank you for your prayers and support.
Kindest Regards,
Kimberly
