I'm Utundee Saunders, originally from Freeport, Grand Bahamas. My family (Uncles, Aunt’s, Cousin’s) in East Grand Bahama was severely affected by Hurricane Dorian, leaving them homeless or lifeless. Hearing the stories and seeing the impact on the area prompted me to start a fundraising campaign because the rehabilitation of homes, lives, and emotional well-being will take years to reestablish.
"Thank God I am alive, but my whole house is gone, but are you ok”? Those are the words of my Aunt Betty who lost everything during the storm. She's lived in that house for 45 years, and everything is gone. But she wasn't concerned for herself, instead she was worried about me, someone who lost nothing in the storm.
This story isn't atypical. This is the mindset of my people, the people in the Bahamas. They always look out for others, and now they need our help!
The East End of the Bahamas was hit terribly. Killing and destroying our family and their homes. The nostalgic life that we knew.
Money raised through this fund will be used for generators, fuel, tarps, roofing materials, food, water, medication, personal hygiene products, diapers, formula, pet supplies, paper products, pillows, blankets, sleeping bags, air mattresses, duct tape, extension cords, dos fans, batteries, flashlights, cleaning supplies, first aid kits, tools, garbage bags, and cash donations to the most severely impacted relatives- those who can only see the foundation of where their home once remained.
I guarantee that 100% of these funds will go directly to the residents of East End Grand Bahama and the long road ahead to rebuild.
I am updating my post so that GoFundMe will transfer your generous donations to my account. (I have already used $4,770 to provide immediate relief to some of my family members).
1. Your donations will be deposited to my personal bank account and I, Utundee Saunders, am personally responsible for all withdrawals and disbursements of funds.
2. I will use your donations to purchase the emergency items listed above.
3. I am the niece and cousin of all the recipients of these funds.
Thank you again for all your support. More updates will be coming soon.
