I've known Bob for almost 25 years. He's been one of those friends from the Philly music scene that we will always know is there. And where you always know how he will show up with you, silly, without judgment, and from a good heart.
When he met Amy, he was obviously happier than we'd ever seen him.
The two of them built an awesome life together, and as they did, they shared their journey with all of us. Their dream began to expand as they started traveling to Florida, and there, on Matlacha Island, they found the life they were searching for, full of sunshine, beach, and happiness.
Watching what they've created there has been awesome, and seeing how much they love that island. Smiles grew bigger; life was easier.
However, sometimes, happiness is challenged greatly. This is one of those times.
Hurricane Ian devastated Bob and Amy's beloved island. There is no way on or off the island now, as the causeway was destroyed. They estimate six months before electricity will return to the island. The clean-up and restoration of infrastructure will be significant.
It is neither safe nor possible for Bob and Amy to say in their home and on the island they love, so they will need to find interim housing for at least six months.
Their business took on water, and things need to be replaced or fixed.
And although there is insurance and aid, it NEVER covers the full cost of an experience like this. Bob and Amy will use this to rebuild their lives and to cover the expenses not reimbursed through insurance.
Also, maybe they will use it to have dinner on us or some just time to recover.
Bob and Amy chose to stay in their beloved home on the island they love during a Cat 4 hurricane direct hit. They may put on a brave face, but I had a friend who did so on St John, and it impacted her immensely. The experience is horrific, even with no physical injury. The devastation is emotionally fatiguing.
Let's show Bob and Amy the Philly scene love we can share. We all know what we experienced as a tight-knit scene back in the day was something unusual, so let's continue that connection and help and love one of our own.
Even small donations add up quickly. If you can't donate, share this fundraiser or leave them a message of support.
All proceeds will go directly to Bob and Amy to rebuild their lives; they are the sole beneficiaries of this fundraiser.
Thank you for donating, sharing, or leaving a message of support.
With love for all of you,
Deanna - Hostess of Happiness (my Bob-given nickname from back then)
