Hurricane Beryl: Help the Quashie Family Rebuild Its Home

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Joseph Quashie, and I’m reaching out with a heartfelt plea for help.

On July 1st, 2024, the island of Carriacou in the Caribbean was devastated by Hurricane Beryl. The storm wreaked havoc, destroying or damaging nearly every home—including ours. Tragically, over ninety percent of the island’s infrastructure was wiped out.

My father, Samuel ‘Roy’ Quashie, an 86-year-old retiree, was at home alone when the hurricane struck. By a miracle, he survived unharmed, but the same cannot be said for the house he has poured his heart, soul, and life savings into. He lost almost everything. Our beloved family home, which has stood for years, was ravaged by the storm, and the damage is overwhelming.

In 2007, Dad retired to Carriacou (his place of birth), seeking a better quality of life and relief from his arthritis. He invested his life savings into renovating the property after it had already suffered damage from Hurricane Emily in 2005. Due to the prohibitively high cost of insurance—quoted at $8,000 EC per year—he was unable to secure a policy to protect our home. Now, we’re left to pick up the pieces once again, only this time, we can’t do it alone.

We need your help.

Our family is seeking financial support to repair our home.

Why your donation matters: This isn’t just about bricks and mortar—it’s about my father’s safety, dignity, and peace of mind in his twilight years. He has worked his entire life to build a future in Carriacou, and in a single day, so much of that was lost. With your generosity, we can give him back the home he deserves—a place where he can live out his remaining years in comfort and security.

Your donation, no matter the size, will make a tangible difference. As a guide, pre-Hurricane Beryl a single PVC window cost $EC1090 / £305.

We will provide updates so you can see exactly how your kindness is helping to rebuild not just a house, but a sense of hope for our family. I will ensure that all donations are sent to my dad for the rebuilding of our family home.

Please consider donating today. Your support means the world to us in this time of need.

Further images showing the damage are included below.

With deepest gratitude,

Joseph Quashie (London, England) and Samuel ‘Roy’ Quashie (Carriacou)
