Huronia Arts Academy Legacy
The Huronia Arts Academy was started by my mother, Louise Martin, in the basement of our childhood home 20 years ago. She always had a passion to provide music to anyone in our community who wanted it with absolutely no exceptions. My mom wanted her music school to be a welcoming, stress free environment to learn, grow and have fun. Over the years the music school provided many different group programs, recitals and summer camps to foster a strong sense of community and togetherness among students and teachers. Her impact on the music community was truly amazing.
My mom was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, August 17th as she felt an intense sickness come on. The illness was far worse than any of us had realized and she sadly and suddenly passed away two days later on Thursday, August 19th. No one expected this devastating outcome. Her passing has been a great loss to our family, the music community and everyone who was involved in her life. She will be greatly missed by everyone she touched. She was the heart and soul of the Huronia Arts Academy and an inspiration to all of us.
The music school has experienced many hard times, including the COVID-19 pandemic which has negatively impacted so many of us, but none greater than the passing of my mother. In the end, she was putting far more into the school than people expected her to due to losses related to COVID-19. She did this because she hoped that we would make it through together. She believed in her teachers and friends, and she cared more about the students than she ever did about profits. She was the most genuinely sincere, kind, passionate, and hardworking person I have ever met.
I recently took on a managerial role as my mom hoped that the music school would some day be mine. Unfortunately this day has come far sooner than any of us expected. I want to keep her dream alive and continue to spread the joy of music to our wonderful community.
