Huron River Weed Harvesting @ Ore Lake Outflow 2025
Donation protected
Thank you for your generous donations. On July 15-16 2025, our first community funded weed harvesting of the flat area of the Huron River channel from the river bend at Hidden Lake to the Hamburg Road bridge (which includes in front of the Little Ore outlet) was completed with your financial support. The weed harvesters cut and removed over 13,000 pounds of weeds in that stretch of the river.
We all should be very proud of this accomplishment.
This GoFundMe has been suspended and is considered complete for now. Thank you again for your support.
2025 Weed Harvesting on the Huron River at Ore Lake Outflow
The purpose of this 2025 Resident-Funded weed harvesting on the Huron River is to serve as a pilot program to determine the potential benefits for early seasonal harvesting for minimizing flooding. The intent is to harvest the flat area of the Huron River channel from the river bend at Hidden Lake to the Hamburg Road bridge (which includes in front of the Little Ore outlet). The goal is to harvest in June to maximize water flow and hopefully minimize the number of days that Ore Lake and Little Ore experience flooding this summer.
The resident-funded weed harvesting and removal will cost $10,000 total. To reach our goal, a suggested donation from each house is $50 per house. A donation of any amount will help to make this effort a success.
Hamburg Township is planning to harvest downstream of the Hamburg Road bridge in July, depending on the river level.
Also, there is a volunteer Huron River clean-up event on May 31, 2025 to remove fallen trees and other river debris blockage.
