My name is Harmony/Huong Nguyen. I am an Asian American Trans educator and artist living in Grand Rapids. I primarily work with youth and adults. I love to teach art and share resources. I wanted to reach out and ask for your incredible support as I embark on a journey to access the gender-affirming care that I've been dreaming of for the past 8 years.

At the beginning of 2023, I received amazing news that top surgery was finally becoming a possibility for me.

While my full-time job as a Studio Manager has been incredibly understanding and generous in offering some paid medical leave, it won't fully cover the additional costs that come with such a significant surgery. The estimated bill for the surgery is around $6-8k, and I've managed to save up $2k on my own. But I still need an additional $4k for the surgery itself and an additional $500 for post-surgery physical therapy.

It's been a long road of saving up, navigating the American medical system, and building a supportive trans community here in Grand Rapids. And now, with all of your help, I believe we can overcome the remaining barriers together! The scheduled surgery date is October 18th, and I'm hoping to reach my target by then. However, even if we don't quite make it, don't worry! There's a payment plan option available, so I'll keep working to reach that $4,500 goal even after the surgery.
