Hunter's Trek

My son, Hunter Tewalt, is currently waiting for a liver transplant. Most gofundme requests emphasize that the need for this kind of transplant is not alcohol-related. I'm not going to sugarcoat Hunter's plight. His addiction caused this. He would have been put on the end of the transplant list in previous years. The delay would have been a death sentence for Hunter.
Enter the Hume-Lee Transplant Center at VCU Medical in Richmond, Virginia. They have a program that allows alcoholics to receive lifesaving care. His medical detox has been facilitated. He will soon get new liver tissue. He will get counseling and help with his addiction. They even provide a halfway house at the end if need be. The excellent doctors and nurses there are angels on earth. We are so grateful.
Hunter truly wants to get better. We've sought help for a while, but help always seemed to elude him. He'd get turned away from hospitals; programs wouldn't take his Medicaid or were too expensive for us to afford. It took him almost dying for anyone to pay attention to his plight.
I'm taking early retirement so I can be with him for his recovery. We're looking into how Social Security can help him. It takes a while for this to all come through. We need financial help now to keep a roof over our heads and gas in my car. Every little bit will help. Our family thanks you in advance.
