HUNTER’S NICU JOURNEY
We are told the NICU will be our only grandchild Hunter’s home for the next 100+ days as he grows and develops. Hunter was born at just 25 weeks gestation barely weighing 1 pound.
Our family has had BIG medical events these past 4 years that brought us to this miracle!
2014-June; our oldest son was diagnosed with mouth Cancer at the age of 24. On August 13, 2014 he had surgery to remove 1/3 of his tongue and lymph nodes in his neck to free him from Cancer.
Over the course of the next 3 years we battled many mis-diagnoses with our oldest daughter’s health; from Lupus, Celiac disease and plenty of other things during what has been a very challenging time for her.
2016- Our oldest son & his wife lost their first child; a daughter to a still birth at 26 weeks related to high BP and Pre-eclampsia.
2018- July, our youngest daughter (20 years old) was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer, August 14th 2018 was surgery day. She is no longer host to a left kidney or the tumor that took up residency there.
August 13th 2018 just a day prior to our daughters surgery our oldest son’s wife, pregnant with Hunter their 2nd child was transported by an air team to the hospital with high BP and Pre-eclampsia. We sat in fervent prayer that this outcome would be much different than the last. Just 4 days later at 25 weeks gestation our first grandchild; sweet Hunter was born in an emergency C-Section.
What a week we had!
As I write this Hunter is stable and doing all the things expected of a 1 pound, 10” baby born 15 weeks too early. His Mom is recovering well, as is our youngest daughter from her kidney surgery. We feel incredibly blessed and are making plans for a bright, healthy future for all of our children & grandson.
With all of these crazy health problems also comes a mountain of unexpected financial burdens and our hope is that we can raise money to help relieve some of this stress for our children.
Each day as I visit Hunter I will share a few of my new favorite quotes (below) as well as reminding him of all the love & support we are receiving from friends, family and those we have yet to meet. We cannot begin to express our gratitude and love! Thank you for your continued prayers & support.
“Let him sleep, for when he wakes he will move mountains” –Napolean Bonaparte
“Grow strong little one, you have plenty ahead of you to do!” –Aunt Sug
Hunter is strong, and as one of his nurses stated he is “feisty”. Hunter is our miracle, and a joy in our family’s life, for now instead of snuggles and bedtime stories we will keep vigil at his incubator cheering him on to the greatness life has in store for him.
