Hi everyone! My name is Hunter, or you may know me as Hunter Sharp, and I’m a trans drag queen and makeup artist from the Pacific Northwest. I began my transition in 2021 and started my medical transition in 2022. For most of my life my face has caused me a great amount of discomfort as there has been a dissonance between how I think I look versus how I am perceived, and as I’ve been going through the process of hormone replacement therapy my facial dysphoria has significantly worsened. I’m seeing my body change and become more feminine while my face has stayed the same and I see a past version of myself staring back at me. For the last few years I’ve used makeup not just as an outlet for my own creativity and self expression, but as a medical tool to combat my own facial dysphoria and to feel comfortable in my own skin. My goal in pursuing these surgeries is to get to a point where I can look in a mirror, bare faced, and see the version of myself I can see in my head.
**UPDATED** I recently switched health insurance providers to a company that's much more trans friendly. I'm extremely lucky and grateful because they cover gender affirming surgeries and have reduced the amount I owe to only a few thousand dollars for ALL surgeries rather than my initial quote of $60,000 for only FFS. They've also connected me to in network surgeons that are able to see me much sooner. That's a bit of a double edged sword though because while it's great that I'm getting surgery much sooner than anticipated, I haven't been able to meet my personal savings goal yet. I'm lucky enough to receive breast augmentation next week on 04.04.24 however I need to raise as much as possible by then. I'm currently asking for funds to help cover:
- Cars to/from the hospitals post surgery. Both of my surgeons are in the Upper East Side and the Bronx and I live in Brooklyn. The cost of Ubers in total for both procedures will be almost $1000.
- Copays/medications. The copay/deductible alone is almost going to deplete my entire savings account, I'm asking for help to minimize the damage to my savings and help me maintain my safety net.
- Basic living expenses. My partner is taking time off to help me recover and isn't being paid for that time so we need help just covering our basic needs of groceries/rent/other bills/etc.
- Laser hair removal prior to FFS. I've had to expedite this process because surgery is looking like it'll happen around this fall and I need to remove as much hair as possible prior. Thank you to everyone who's donated already, that money helped with the downpayment on this process.
These procedures will not just improve my overall mental health but improve the quality of my life dramatically. Making it harder for people to recognize me as trans in public will greatly increase my safety and will help me move through the world with fearlessly. I’m ready to take this big scary step and for you all to see the Hunter that I see.
