Hunter, our miracle boy...

Hi! My name is Hunter. I made my unexpected grand entrance to the world on May 10th, 2023 - a whole 14 weeks early, at just 26 weeks gestation due to umbilical cord prolapse and premature membrane rupture.

Mummy was rushed into the operating room at St. Joseph's hospital in Hamilton and I was born via emergency c-section just minutes later and I was not breathing.
Being that I was born so early, I only weighed 890 grams (1lb 15oz) and my lungs were severely underdeveloped. I required extreme recussitation measures and immediate intubation. Once I was stablized, I was transported to the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at McMaster Children's hospital. This would be the beginning of my 309 day journey in the NICU. Through the months, I faced many challenges and faught hard for my life. Two intubations, a hole in my heart, evidence of some damage to my brain and several months of CPAP support led my parents to make lots of really challenging decisions without a lot of answers about my future.
Although I have made some really incredible improvements I still struggle with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD), which required me to go through surgery to place a Tracheostomy and I now rely on a ventilator to keep my lungs open and able to absorb oxygen. Because I require 24 hour, eyes on care to ensure my equipment is running correctly and I am not in distress, I currently reside in a home for medically complex children and although the care I recieve is great, I still need my Mom by my side, as much as possible.

Through all of this, my mum has struggled to keep up with the costs of everyday life and other expenses related to my medical supplies and other extraodinary needs. We are hoping to get support from our friends and family to allow my Mom to contiue to be with me as much as possible, while preparing for me to eventually come home. We sincerely appreciate any help we can get.
Thank you
Xo Hunter
