Hunter and Accessabilities
My Son Hunter was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at age 4.
Hunter is now 11 and he is really in the need of a ramp for him to walk into the house, walking up the stairs into the house is becoming difficult and we will have to use his special needs stroller and a wheelchair more. We have already moved into a home that is one level so he would not fall anymore going up and down to his bedroom.
After countless promises from different people offering to help with a ramp and a bigger, safer deck outback, nobody has come through for us!! This is really heartbreaking to say the least. A bigger deck connected to the house outback will provide a safe, accessible place for Hunter to still enjoy the outdoors without struggling to get him down the steps to the yard. The older he is getting the more mobility he is losing with this disease.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is much more common in boys. This is one of the most common and severe forms, it usually affects boys in early childhood. Unfortunately there's no cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The aim of treatment is to control symptoms and improve the quality of life. Most patients become wheelchair dependent around 10–12 years of age and need assisted ventilation at around 20 years of age. With optimal care, most patients with DMD die between 20 and 30 years of age from cardiorespiratory complications.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated in helping Hunter through life more easily. Thank you all...
