Here is me doing the one thing I said I would never do... but the last few years have thrown some huge challenges my way so why not add another!

5 years ago, I was diagnosed with Graves’ Disease – awful name I know! This is an autoimmune disease that damages the thyroid gland which is a little butterfly shaped gland located in your neck. The thyroid regulates your bodies metabolic rate, growth & development.

There is no known cause or cure & to keep things short I just hope you never have to experience it. I had 1 relapse after achieving euthyroid through medication & was left with definitive treatment as my only option.

On the 7th of March this year I finally went through with the tough decision of undergoing total thyroidectomy surgery, so now I just have to take thyroxine for the rest of my life - simple!

I do love to be miss positive however it is safe to say the toll this journey has taken not only on my physical health, but mental health has not been easy however I’m actually so grateful for this experience. I certainly would not be who I am today without going on this crazy journey, my little butterfly gland has been a pain in the backside for sure, but it’s also taught me SO much & led me to some truly amazing people.

Now, 11 weeks post op I clearly feel like I’ve not been challenged enough & have booked a 160ft Bungee Jump over Salford Quays to raise some charity money! This has always been one of my biggest fears (especially above water) but apparently, I think I’m brave enough now.
