Recently, on 28 March 2025, Myanmar was afflicted with a devastating 7.7 Magnitude earthquake, with the epicenter being in the heart of Myanmar, obliterating and destroying countless civilian buildings, roads, hospitals, and many more. There is now a heart-wrenching humanitarian disaster, with mounting human dead bodies each day.

With Myanmar already afflicted by escalating civil wars since the coup in 2021, the failure of the state and its prevention of international aid further heightens the ongoing humanitarian disaster. Many places across the country, especially those near the epicentre, such as the city of Mandalay and its surrounding cities, have no access to food, shelter, medical care, and especially drinking water. WHO reports impending health outbreaks, further entrenching the disastrous hardship faced by the people in Myanmar.

Melbourne has over 20,000 individuals of Myanmar descent or those whose parents are from Myanmar. Many have families and friends back in Myanmar who are likely to have been affected due to the severity and scale of this earthquake. In the interest of these community members and the broader Australian community who are associated with our community, we plan to hold this event to show our support for Myanmar.

I have created this fundraising account to provide individuals with a more accessible platform for making donations. All contributions will be directly transferred to a trusted organization actively working in the affected areas.
