Human Rights Law Internship
Donation protected
Hi my name is Emma Duarte, I am a 20 year old first generation college student with a hardworking single momma and five siblings. I have studied abroad for the past year in Florence, Italy and London in the United Kingdom on a full ride scholarship from St. Mary’s College of California. Recently, I have been accepted into a Human Rights Law internship in Tanzania for 8 weeks over the summer. This is an incredible opportunity for me not only as a student but for my future career as a Human Rights Lawyer. It has always been my dream to defend childrens rights in countries with the most challenging human rigths cases and circumstances. I aspire to protect and represent their rights to education and safety in their home countries. As they face human/sex trafficking, child brides, child soldiers, and other heinous realities and practices, I want to be hands on in fighting against these human rights abuses. I know my journey to start this work is long but I am actively fighting for this in the future. I was approved for a loan that covered the internship cost but not the flights or extra expenses during my stay. Since I was not legally able to work while living in London on a student visa I supported myself by student loans. Unfortunately, I have since reached the max to take out for the year and would be extremely grateful if you can spare any donation to help me be able to afford this opportunity. My flight home is over a thousand dollars alone. While the internship covers breakfast and dinner Monday through Friday and my accommodation, I will still need money for food and necessities during the two months I’ll be staying there. I am deeply appreciative of any support you can provide so long as it does not create a burden to you. I will make sure to keep all of you updated throughout my journey with photos-videos-and thank you messages!
